The Patrol Deputy is one of the most visible members of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, providing round the clock service to the citizens, businesses and visitors of Surry County.
   
Each Patrol Deputy works to protect life and property, ensure the civil rights of individuals, maintain public peace, provide citizen assistance, enforce criminal and motor vehicle laws, and respond to emergency situations.
   
The Patrol Divisions patrol 536 square miles with an estimated population of 74,000 residents.
   
The Patrol Divisions is comprised of 27 Deputies and four K-9’s. It is broken down into four squads that work twelve hour shifts on a rotating basis. Each squad has a Sergeant, Senior Officer, four Deputies and a K-9. There are two Deputies that work a split shift between two squads. A Lieutenant supervises the entire Division.
   
There are four municipalities within Surry County, the Mt. Airy Police Department, Dobson Police Department, Elkin Police Department, and Pilot Mountain Police Department. Deputies are called to assist these municipalities as the need arises.
