detention division The Detention Division is responsible for receiving prisoners from every Law Enforcement Agency in the county. This division is also responsible for preparing the prisoners for transport to the court room and the humane treatment of all incarcerated individuals of Surry County. The Transport Officers of the detention division are responsible for the transport of all involuntary commitments and prisoners to all locations in the State of North Carolina and additional states as the court may order. The Transportation officers logged approximately 100,00 miles in a years time performing these duties. The Food Services staff of the Detention division is responsible for preparing and serving 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, everyday of the year to every prisoner housed in the detention facility. This is an average of 85000 meals per year at a cost of less than $1.10 per meal per inmate.
